President's Summary
The Chicone Ruritan Club of Vienna, Maryland began the first quarter of 2008 in a very successful fashion. Certainly, much of the success can be attributed to the support of the Vienna community, but also to the greater Dorchester community and surrounding areas.
After electing new officers and directors in January, the local club began immediately to complete the on-going activities of 2007, including the sale and donation of 2008 calendars, in addition to the contributions to community activities. By the end of February, the 2008 ads for the Delmarva-New Jersey District Directory, which helps fund our scholarship award program, had been distributed.
Plans were put into place at the beginning of the year to hold our annual Steak Dinner fund raiser in February. The event was a success and many compliments were received. Funds from this event are used for scholarships, and also for community needs such as family emergency's, support of the local Recreation and Parks Department, and numerous other charities.
Presently, we are preparing to celebrate the annual Nanticoke Shad Festival on Saturday April 26th, and we look back at the Blackwater Eagle Fest in March with much pride as our local club, along with other civic organizations, participated in this important event.
Activities continue to be anticipated, but none more than our second annual Chicone Golf Tournament to be held May 17, 2008 at the Linkwood Family Golf Course. Openings still exist for sponsorships as well as team entries. To play or help with a contribution for local scholarships, please contact Dale Collins at 410.943.8479 for all needed information.
We invite our friends, neighbors and anyone interested to attend our meetings by calling Chuck Hurley at 410.943.0691.
